A wallpaper based off of the song "The Standard Model" by SoGreatandPowerful ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdhWa5…
As always, all of my love goes to SGaP.
Created using GIMP 2.6 and assets from "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" and "The Standard Model" by SoGreatandPowerful.
Edit #3: Replaced the original, upscaled text with carefully sized and placed GIMP generated text (the font turned out to be Bodoni, if anyone's curious). This should lead to the text looking a lot more crisp and clean.
Minor Edit #1: Fixed the "u" period label having a more extreme blur compared to the rest of the model.
TLDR: I made a bunch of minor edits that made everything look much better.
More detailed explanation: I evened out the thickness of the frames for the elements, manually improved some of the more angled/curved letters (most prominently the 'G' in 'Gn', the previous version of which still haunts my nightmares to this day) by using slight shading and other techniques, and made the Standard Model fit in better with the background by duplicating the layer, applying a 0.8 pixel Gaussian blur to it, and then overlaying the original layer on top of it.
Edit: I re-exported to JPEG and updated the file here once I learned that Windows actually converts .PNG files into lower quality JPEGs when it uses them as wallpapers.
Also, I appreciate criticism, so feel free to tear my work apart verbally (as long as it's constructive).
Pretentious standard use notice: Feel free to use this work in whatever way you'd like as long as you link back here so that people can access the original image for their own use. I would also ask that any derivative work is listed under the same Creative Common's license as this wallpaper (spread the love), but if you'd like to use it in something you're not comfortable listing as such, go ahead and shoot me a note on DeviantArt. I'm pretty lenient, and if I don't respond back in ten days (I should respond a lot sooner), feel free to use it without my express permission. Additionally, were someone to request it, I can give out various individual elements of the image, whilst simultaneously revealing how truly bad I am at GIMP. Also, since I love to see my work remixed and reused, I would appreciate general notifications about its usage to bolster my already inflated ego.
